Váróterem Projekt Won An AFCN-award

Each year, the Romanian National Cultural Fund (AFCN) awards special prizes to partners who have successfully implemented projects with AFCN support in the previous year. The award jury is made up of representatives of past winners, and the beneficiaries compete in 10 different categories. It was already a great honour to be shortlisted this year, but as revealed at the awards gala in Bucharest on 16 May 2022, our company won the Award for Reaching Young Audiences with Limited Cultural Access with the second edition of our Four Wheels tour series.

The project aims to tour children’s and youth performances in Transylvanian settlements that have a Hungarian-languaged educational, but no Hungarian-languaged cultural institution, thus lacking access to mother tongue culture. In keeping with the spirit of the times, the tour was conducted both online and in physical space, with the following presentations: Bánk bán? Online!, All The Things People Like To Talk About, Charlie, the Crow, The Pea Test and Bánk bán? Present! At one point, restrictions due to the virus situation put the project in serious jeopardy, as the educational institutions were not able to receive guests. Nothing proves that boundaries inspire creativity better than our response to the restrictions: we visited children’s homes and orphanages in Transylvania, who were delighted to welcome us. These new partnerships, and meeting the residents, were the real value of the project!

During the project, we performed 36 shows in 15 different municipalities, and nearly 2000 children and teenagers watched us. We thank them, in particular, for this award, as well as our partners and, of course, AFCN, whose team demonstrates vocation, professionalism and humanity year after year, setting a good example to other sponsors. Thank you!
